Food security center stage in international event in Rio

To promote healthy eating habits, ed by sustainable food systems, to achieve climate justice, and to reduce social inequality are the goals of the discussions that began Monday (Oct 17), at the 8th Global Forum of the Milan Urban Food Policy Pact (MUFPP).
The event gathers over 500 delegates, mayors, and representatives from 162 cities around the world—such as Paris, Copenhagen, Chicago, and Washington—at the Cidade das Artes cultural center, in western Rio de Janeiro, until Wednesday (19).
Among the topics covered are food waste, climate justice in cities, school meals fostering local and sustainable diversity, food literacy as a form of historical and cultural revival, post-pandemic food policies, and urban agriculture.
The Milan Pact
The Milan Urban Food Policy Pact is an international agreement among mayors, which aims to be a tool for concrete actions by cities, unveiled at Expo Milan 2015. Divided into six categories, the list of 37 recommended actions includes indicators gauging implementation. The categories are governance, sustainable diets and nutrition, social and economic equity, food production, food supply and distribution, and food waste.
