Senator Eduardo Braga, in charge of Brazil's 2017 federal budget in a t congressional committee, unveiled to the press on Tuesday (Nov. 22) a preliminary report in which an extra $3 billion is earmarked for health care and $280 million more for education—$3.28 million altogether.

Regarding health care, Braga explained that more funds were allocated in order to meet the 15% of current net revenue stipulated by the constitutional amendment bill limiting public spending, pending Senate approval.

The new costs with health care and education will be compensated for through the $2.68 billion rise in the ceiling for 2017 revenues and the cut of $1.8 billion in incentives.

Member of the committee may still suggest changes to the report. Once drafted, the document is to submitted to the floor of the house for deliberation.
