The heavy rainfall has caused severe damage to 132 municipalities -
The heavy rainfall that has pounded most of the southern state of Paraná since last weekend has caused severe damage to 132 municipalities, with 130 of them declaring state of emergency. Nine people have been reported dead, 30 injured and six missing due to the downpours. The number of people who have permanently lost their homes has escalated to 3,805. Victims left temporarily homeless now amount to 12,957. Over 8.4 thousand homes have been wrecked.

The Ministry of National Integration has allocated $63 thousand for the implementation of measures in aid of the victims and the provision of basic services.
The state government has carried out emergency works in an effort to unblock the roads affected by the downpours on the weekend. Teams have been set up to repair 56 damaged highway stretches. They have managed to clear 14 out of the 70 obstructions throughout Paraná.
On Monday (Jun 9), the Iguaçu National Park reported the highest-ever outflow rate at the Iguaçu Falls – 46 million liters per second (lps). The previous record was ed in 1983, and stood at 35 million lps. The normal outflow rate is 1,5 million lps.
