Gov't sends $1.55 million to nine Amazon cities

The funds aim to provide to the victims, benefit civil defense

The Ministry of Integration authorized on Monday (Jun 8) the allotment of $1,55 million for the nine municipalities in Amazonas state affected by local river floods. At least 247 thousand people were affected by local river floods. The funds will be used in civil defense measures and aim to provide victims with and help services go back to normal.

According to the Civil Defense of Amazonas State, 33 municipalities are facing state of emergency due to high water. Seven rivers have been put on alert, and a state of public alert has been declared for the municipality of Boca do Acre, due to a flood on the Purus River.

The resources are to benefit the municipalities of Atalaia do Norte, Pauini, Manacapuru, Santo Antônio do Içá, Maraã, Anori, Amaturá, Tefé and Juruá. The Civil Defense announced that, apart from the federal funds, the state government of Amazonas has thus far helped municipalities with more than  $1 million.

Works have been given a 180-day period to end, and managers must report their conclusion to the government in up to 30 days following this deadline.
