Two Brazilians to receive Hypatia International Award

Archaeologist Tania Andrade Lima and Father Júlio Lancellottivai will receive the Hypatia International Award, given by the Confederation of International Centers for the Conservation of Architectural Heritage in honor of those who contribute to scientific knowledge in their fields.
Lima was chosen among the ten scientists honored this year for the discovery of the Valongo wharf in 2011, located in the port area of Rio de Janeiro, where more than 1 million enslaved people from Africa ed through early in the 20th century. The place was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2017.
Father Julio Lancellotti will receive the award for his fight against the hostile architecture that prevents homeless people in São Paulo city from taking shelter in public spaces and for his defense of inclusive urban projects.
The award will be granted on October 16 at the opening of the 6th Biennial of Architectural and Urban Restoration, in Florence, Italy.
