Brazil’s Statistics Institute forecasts 3% rise in 2014 crop
Harvest area expected to total 55 million hectares this year

Brazil’s 2014 crop is expected to reach 193.9 million tons this year, 3% higher than 2013, when the crop totaled 188.2 million tons, according to estimates released on Tuesday (Feb. 11) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (“IBGE”).
Still according to the institute, the 2014 harvest area should total 55 million hectares, 5.2% larger than that of last year – 52.8 million.
Additionally, rice, corn and soy together for 92.5% of the country’s estimated production and correspond to 85.5% of the harvest area.
