Almost 90% of Brazilian municipalities have a website, according to a survey entitled 2014 Profile of Brazilian States and Municipalities, released today (Aug. 26) by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). From 2012 to 2014, there was a growth of 14 percentage points, from 74.5% to 88.7%.
Nearly half of the websites use citizens, enterprises and other institutions as sources of information. About 31.3% of websites allow s to carry out transactions like the payment of bills, taxes, enrollments, and applications. In addition, 17% of the websites are only informative.
An IBGE survey conducted in 2012 painted a very different scenario: 65.3% of the cities had only informative pages, 26.8% had interactive pages, and only 6.8% of the pages allowed s to carry out transactions.
The 2014 survey, in turn, indicates that all 27 state governments run websites on which transactions are possible.
According to survey manager Vania Pacheco, the study reveals a closer relationship between state and local governments and society, due to the significant rise in interactive tools on the websites.
