
Judge Edson Fachin, head of Brazil’s Superior Electoral Court, ended today (Apr. 11) a series of four meetings with representatives from the regional electoral courts on the coming elections.
During the assembly with the heads of the courts in the Central-West and South regions, Fachin named the measures adopted to reinforce the transparency in the elections, such as increasing the number of voting machines to be audited and the availability of real-time counting updates.
In his opening address, the Judge Fachin mentioned the t work of electoral authorities and said the respect for the rules of the game and the institutions is essential in a democratic electoral process.
“Participating in the organization of elections goes beyond the mere preparation of those involved and requires true cooperation,” he declared.
The first round of the elections will be held on October 2, when voters will go to the polls to elect the president, governors, senators, as well as federal, state, and district representatives. An possible second round, for president and state governments, will take place on October 30.
